Rebecca Pow: My Views on the European Referendum

I have deliberated long and hard over my decision regarding Europe. I have spoken to some key businesses in Taunton Deane as well as people, the more elderly, farmers and those passionate about the environment. I have also had individual meetings with Michael Gove and David Cameron, both of whom I have a great deal of respect for. There are convincing arguments on both sides and whatever the outcome of the referendum I shall play my part in doing the best, not just for Taunton Deane, but also for the nation. This is after all an individual vote. It was a manifesto promise (no other party offered this) and people are now getting this opportunity to have their say.

Taunton Deane MP Backs Bristol Airport

This week Rebecca Pow MP wrote to the Chancellor urging him to scrap plans to devolve Air Passenger Duty (APD) to Wales which would allow Cardiff Airport to run cheaper flights, undercutting Bristol Airport.

Wildlife Crime

Since my election I have made a concerted effort to stand up for nature in Westminster, all too often this issue can be overlooked in favour of what might be considered as bigger policy questions of the day. Ensuring a sustainable natural world is an essential part of enabling a healthy life for us all. In this respect it is important that people who break the law and endanger our wildlife are investigated and prosecuted. The National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU) is a vital part of this process and I am urging Ministers to protect its funding.

Seed Sown For Wellington Rail Station

 Despite recovering from recent surgery Taunton Deane MP, Rebecca Pow was delighted that her endeavours so far to raise the profile for the idea of a new metro style railway station for Wellington were recognised by the Rail Minister herself and referred to during a debate on the Great Western Rail route in the House of Commons last week.
